First let me say this, I wasn’t aware of all the rules that came with being a responsible candle owner until I started making candles. So if you wasn’t aware either, don’t worry girl, I got you! Did you know that you are supposed to trim your wick to 1/4 inch everytime you burn your candle? This is done to prevent your flame from raging out of control and burning too hot. This is especially important when burning a wooden wick. The preferred way to do this is by using wick trimmers. You can purchase them for as little as $8 retail. Or you can use your faithful scissors.
The next important detail in candle ownership is making sure you burn the candle correctly from start to finish. Your first burn should be about 3 to 4 hours unless it is a candle under 5 oz, then I would suggest 2 hours. This is done to prevent tunneling. Once you burn your first 4 hours you can burn your candle in 2 hour increments and not longer than 4 hours. Never fall asleep while burning a candle. Never leave your candle unattended. Always burn your candle on a flame resistant surface and never burn your candle when it is less than 1/4 inch of wax left. Candles can get very hot at the bottom and can burn the surface of your countertop.
Last thing I want to mention is it’s important to keep your flame away from things such as fans, air vents or drafts. These things can cause your flame to dance a bit too much. Which can be dangerous and I also personally feel like it affects the scent throw. I think that about covers it. If y’all have any other questions about candle care, you can always reach out to me. I try to have this information in every package and on the website. It’s better to know than not know. Next I’ll be covering how to get the maximum scent out of your candle. So stay tuned loves 💜
